All mysteries about potatoes are peeled away in The Amazing Potato Book by Paulette Bourgeois. This is definitely an excellent resource for any science or nutrition unit. Bourgeois has integrated many facts about the past, present and future of the potato into several sections. Did you know that potatoes can be used to fuel cars or that potatoes are the most environmentally friendly vegetable?

This book contains scientific experiments, art activities and recipes. It also has a set of wonderful activities for anyone who wants to host a potato picnic! It is full of practical, simple and easy-to-set-up "fun."

Although this is not a book that an eight-year-old would pick up and read from cover to cover, children will enjoy reading bits and pieces to gain smatterings of information about this "miracle vegetable." This book is written to allow any reader to scan the information.

Linda Hendry's illustrations entice the reader to keep reading. They keep the reader curious and wanting to read "just one last thing!" Her same style of charming illustrations can also be found in another "Amazing" book. The Amazing Milk Book (Kids Can Press, forthcoming).

I recommend this book for any school or classroom library.
