Kite enthusiasts will enjoy this latest book with its intriguing title Fishing for Angels. I recently reviewed another book on kites, Go Fly a Kite: The Kite Builder's Manual by John C. Boxtel. It is a thoroughly practical manual on kite construction and kite flying. By contrast. Fishing for Angels presents a more aesthetic, historical and legendary approach to the subject, even though suggestions for constructing and flying three types of kites are included. More weight, however, is given to legends about kites and their importance in mythology and in the cultures of various countries, along with descriptions of kite experiments, which led to the invention of the airplane.

Colourful illustrations by artist-editor Adele D’Arcy and photographs by Rainer Pfister, along with good type on smooth, firm paper, make this book a satisfying one to read. It will be useful for kite flyers and an excellent addition to school and public libraries.
