AMANDA GREENLEAF AND THE BOY MAGICIAN

Amanda Greenleaf, a water sprite who has appeared in two previous books, Amanda Greenleaf Visits a Distant Star (Moonstone Press, 1986) and Amanda Greenleaf and the Spell of the Water Witch, pays another visit to the "Blue Star" in this book. In this adventure she has the help of Nollekens, a young magician with a repertoire of magic spells. Responding to a cry for help from two children on the Blue Star, they fly there to rescue the children's mother. With the help of Nollekens' magic spells and Amanda's lovely music, they not only rescue the mother but bring peace to the warring peoples of the Blue Star and usher in a new era of happiness before returning to their own planet. Attractive illustrations and some ingenious twists of magic, which work effectively but not quite in the way expected, keep interest in the story alive. The tension never builds dramatically, however, because Amanda and Nollekens win each encounter a little too easily.
