Volume 19 Number 3 1991 May "Meet the Author" is a new twenty-two-part series of short productions designed to introduce Canadian authors and artists to elementary and secondary students. The majority of the authors profiled are well known for their contribution to Canadian literature, and KidLit in particular. Names like Brian Doyle, James Houston, Dennis Lee, Parley Mowat, Robert Munsch, Kathy Stinson and Eric Wilson will guarantee the success of the concept. However, the producers have generously extended the range of the series by introducing the next generation of Canadian writers for young people. This is a much more difficult task, due to the large number of aspiring talents at work across the country. The Canadian Studies Directo­rate of the Department of Secretary of State is to be commended for its finan­cial support of the series. If this particular production is representative of the series, it will be very popular with the intended audi­ence. Paul Yee is a Canadian of Chinese origin who has successfully managed his career as an archivist with the Archives of Ontario and his personal interest in writing. During the video, he explains how historical documents and papers have provided source material for his re-examination of the contribu­tion of the Chinese to the development of Canada. Yee has published three works of fiction to date, including a collection of short stories (Teach Me to Fly, Styfighler!), a young adult novel (The Curses of Third Uncle) and his latest group of stories (Tales from Gold Moun­tain). In addition, he has written an adult non-fiction title, Saltwater City: An Illustrated History of the Chinese in Vancouver (Douglas & Mclntyre, 1988).
