Fred Penner's Sing Along, Play Along incorporates the lyrics and piano and guitar arrangements for forty-three songs from his popular children's albums The Cat Came Back (1980), The Polka Dot Pony (1981), Special Delivery (1983), and A House For Me (1985; all Troubador Records). His repertoire includes traditional favourites such as "My Grandfather's Clock,"This Old Man," and "Michael Row the Boat Ashore" and popular children's classics like "The Car Car Song" and "Polly Wolly Doodle," as well as his own cheerful originals, for example "Ebenezer Sneezer" and "The Story of Blunder."

All kinds of crowd-pleasing activities accompany the songs, as does a bibliography (including some Canadian titles) of books that can be linked to the songs and games. Illustrated with cheerful cartoon characters throughout, plus black-and-white photographs of the jackets of the four albums in which the songs are to be found.

This cheery, child-oriented collection is crowded with the kind of campfire, sing-along songs kids love to learn by heart. Should be a winner with Kindergarten to grade 6.
