Tongue-in-cheek action science fiction finds two twelve-year-old friends from the twenty-third century, Jared and Reeann, skipping an end-of-school sixth grade party to take an illegal trip to the asteroid belt, where they are captured by alien bandits.

Sold to the hostile Freetal Empire, the pair are to perform in the Imperial Circus but discover their pig-like Freetal captors' understanding of circus to be patterned not on the Ringling Brothers variety but rather on the Roman gladiatorial arena.

When Reeann's and Jared's first performance against two fifteen-footlong meat-eating Andovian slime worms is successful, they are recruited to rescue the kidnapped Princess Vinegold, the Emperor's little daughter, from the evil clutches of Rothgar the Terrible, who has rebelled against the Empire. Disguised as monkeys, the twosome are supposedly pets being given by the Emperor to his beloved daughter. An extended action-packed rescue sequence naturally leads to a successful conclusion, and the pair return to Earth ready for teachers' favourite back-to-school essay topic, How I Spent My Summer Vacation.

Not Godfrey at his humorous best, I Spent My Summer Vacation Kidnapped into Space will still provide some good chuckles and offers pleasant, undemanding recreational reading.
