Endorsed by the Royal Life Saving Society of Canada, this is an entertaining yet very informative book on all aspects of water safety. Drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death in Canada for those under thirty-five years of age.

With its colourful and appealing illustrations, this book really helps children, parents and teachers learn about safety rules for boating, ice-skating, water sports, and playing on beaches. The format of questions and games and an engaging character called Beeper, who appears on every page, make for good discussion and require involvement from children. I think this is a valuable style for helping children to remember what they learn.

Barbara Klunder, the illustrator, has done an excellent job in creating bright and eye-catching illustrations that will be especially attractive to Primary level children. Older children will still benefit from the book, mainly to see if they can answer all the questions correctly and to find out what they don't know or have forgotten.

This is the author's and illustrator's second "Lookout!" book — the first one being A Child's Guide to Street Safety.

Highly recommended.
