Upon receiving this book for review, my initial reaction was panic. What could possibly be left to say about a book that has been around since 1939? Relief set in, however, when I read the book. The joy of reading a well-written story as well as the pleasure of following the lives of old friends is worthy of comment.

The story centers on Anne and Gilbert Blythe and their children. It continues their story after they moved from the House of Dreams to Ingleside. Anne has taken on the role of mother with her usual enthusiasm and optimism. The Anne in this book is much less impulsive and reckless than when we first met her in Anne of Green Gables. There is a maturity gained through experience that is quite appealing although not quite as fun as in the first encounter. I think this book will continue to be enjoyed by both students and Anne lovers for many years to come.

The print in this edition of Anne of Ingleside is clear and easy to read.
