This truly is a book for all ages. When I went into my local bookstore recently, the owner asked me if I had seen the "beautiful new Canadian poetry book." I hadn't, but as soon as I flipped through the pages, I knew I had to purchase it for my own collection. The review copy in the mail elicited a comment of "Oh, good!"

I have had time to use this book with several classes in the school. Each time I open it, I am excited by the range of poetry found inside and the very lovely full-colour illustrations. The American and British publishers send out this kind of poetry anthology quite often, but Canadian ones have been rare. Kids Can Press is to be commended.

David Booth, who apparently sifted through several thousand poems in order to come up with this selection, is also to be congratulated. I would like to quote from his words in the introduction: "Poets are wordsmiths, spending their lives choosing, bending, shaping, teasing, playing with words. The sounds of language fascinate them so. Poets write words that make your ears sing."

Together, the editors at Kids Can Press, David Booth and Kady MacDonald Denton have produced the vehicle to enable us all to celebrate the poets of our land. If you buy no other book this year for your library or your home, please find the money to purchase this one.
