In this crisp and clearly illustrated book, a girl wakes up one night feeling the urge for some mocha maple chocolate cake. But to get downstairs she must slide past "the sleeping dragons all around." As she tiptoes softly past each dragon she describes it in marvelously rich poetic language.

We meet Priscilla in pink pantaloons, the hideous Fagan wearing a bizarre silver star in his nose, and Ms. Lindy Lean whose sneakers are gargantuan. After she has got by eight of these strange and amazing beasts, disaster strikes in the form of a loud yelp from a stubbed toe that wakes all the dragons, who descend upon her cake. But she rises up and deals forthrightly with the dragons and in the end they all share the dee-lightful mocha maple chocolate cake.

When this book is presented aloud, the wonderfully lively musical language and the large, colourful illustrations will dance off the page to delight and amuse any age group.
