Lois and Herb Walker remind us of the fun and creative potential that puppets offer. The Instant Puppet Resourcebook for Teachers, part of the "Creative Classroom" series, tells how to create and use puppets made from recycled materials. The step-by-step instructions for ten simple puppets, accompanied by clear black-and-white drawings, are child's play to follow. Suggestions for numerous activities and games that utilize the puppets are included. Directions for a larger Teacher's Pet Puppet and suggestions for its use are also given. A table of contents enables the reader to find creative inspiration easily.

The Instant Puppet Resourcebook for Teachers points out how puppets can enrich the primary and intermediate language arts programs. Older children are encouraged to use puppets in activities that include story-telling, plays, and other creative writing activities. Younger children will enjoy playing games like the Word Gobble Game or Mail Puppets with their classmates. Black-line masters for some of the suggested activities are included for duplication.

Lois and Herb Walker have also included scripts of ten plays by Eleanor Boylan and three by Lois Walker. The plays, some original and some retold classics, range in complexity from no-rehearsal, no-stage puppet presentations to full-scale puppet stage presentations. Staging suggestions make the novice puppeteer's job easier.

The Instant Puppet Resourcebook for Teachers won't sit on the shelf very long.
