In Canadian author Jo Ellen Bogart's second book for children, Margo invites ten friends for dinner on her birthday. One guest stands out more than the others. He arrives early wearing his Hallowe'en costume, asks for a peanut butter sandwich with olives and sauerkraut, makes a hat like the Loch Ness monster, sings a solo, wants to play "dirty-double no-hands blindfolded marbles," and brings the most interesting present. The best part was that he also stayed to help with the dishes when the party was over.

The colourful illustrations on each page by Carlos Freire invite children to examine them carefully as well as count and match the numbers with the items on each page. The bold, simple text is especially readable and the bright attractive cover makes the story inviting for younger readers.

An excellent addition to a library or classroom picture book collection, 10 for Dinner is also a nice alternative for teachers looking for another number or counting book.
