Tales from the Wigwam is a delightful collection of five traditional Indian stories adapted for young people as part of the CIRCLE programme. Algonquin, Cree and Ojibway legends are simply and effectively retold by Linda Guebert and Mary Upper. The stories deal with such intriguing matters as how the rabbit got its long ears and hind legs, why the loon can take off only from the water, what happens when a young boy disobeys his wise grandmother, and how to outwit a threatening man of snow.

Told in a direct, fast-paced style, the tales are enhanced by simple and informative illustrations of the traditional life of native people. Young readers will learn about bush camps, setting snares, constructing wigwams, hunting, fishing and winter survival.

These stories bring to life a sampling of the wit arid wisdom of Canada's native heritage. Highly recommended for Primary children.
