Robert Munsch's story-telling format will be familiar to readers of Pigs, his newest book, again illustrated by Michael Martchenko. Munsch is a story-teller whose books are enjoyed by children throughout the world. Martchenko is internationally known for illustrating books by Robert Munsch and Allen Morgan.

Pigs is based on a story told to Robert Munsch by a school child named Meghan. The little girl is asked by her father to feed the pigs. He warns her not to open the gate because pigs are smart and will try to escape. " 'Right,' " said Meghan, 'I will not open the gate. Not me. No sir. No, no, no, no, no.' " But she can't help testing the pigs by opening the gate just a little bit. The pigs run right over Meghan WAP-WAP-WAP-WAP-WAP and out the gate. And thereby begins another delightful Munsch tale of pigs on the loose.

The full-page colour illustrations are in Michael Martchenko's usual comical style. The expressions on the pigs' faces are particularly humorous.

Pigs is a read-aloud book and will appeal to children from tiny tots up. Well bound, the book should stand up to a lot of handling by readers of Robert Munsch.
