A Long Hard Day on the Ranch is Audrey Nelson's third children's book. She writes about a little boy with a very playful imagination who visits his Uncle Bert's farm. In a letter home to his dad he spins a tall tale of how he has been such a great help to his uncle-hauling bandits off to jail, heading off a cattle stampede, cooking up tasty "vittles" for the ranch hands, scaring off a mountain lion, operating on Aunt Lois' toe, etc.

Audrey Nelson's colourful and humorous illustrations capture the excitement, fun and adventure of the small boy's visit. Her fast-paced narrative bubbles with lively "wild west" lingo. Young children will love this warm and wonderful story.
