Angus Baxter is well known to anyone involved in genealogy. He has written a general book on genealogical research for Canadians as well as two other books on doing research in Europe. He gives dozens of lectures a year as well as continues to research his own ancestry.

The purpose of his new book is to guide genealogists in their search for Canadian sources of genealogical information, that is, what information is available and where and how Canadians can obtain that information.

Baxter begins with a brief introduction on getting started in genealogy as well as other basic background information for people researching their family history.

The bulk of the book is a province-by-province compendium of sources of information: archives, libraries, governments, churches and local organizations. Everything from census returns to church registers, wills, and newspaper indexes is discussed for each province and territory and in some cases for cities in each province.

Although the book is written for genealogists, it is understandable to someone not familiar with the field. The author writes in a casual, straightforward manner with humorous overtones to keep the reader awake. The author has done an excellent job in covering the subject as well as is humanly possible.

The book is well organized and easy to use. A new standard reference in Canadian genealogical research has been written. Every public library and high school library in Canada will want this book.

Includes index and bibliography.
