It is a chronicle that includes her immediate and extended family—a memoir of a happy childhood in hard times on a farm in Saskatchewan. Each chapter deals with a different subject—transportation, doctors, Christmas, school—and thus allows easy access to the particular area one may be interested in. Wilsmith spends a good deal of time describing each member of her family and their problems, but these segments certainly brought back memories of my own childhood during that time. As a description of hard times during the Depression, the book is an excellent resource, but there is a bit too much family detail. Most of the illustrations are family group pictures, which are fine if you are interested in the costumes of the lime or are a member of the family, but otherwise they really are of little interest to the reader. The book is well bound with good sturdy stock and large print. It has a soft but durable cover. It will definitely appeal to Depression survivors and anyone else interested in that period.
