Alphabet books are always popular in an elementary library and this could well be one of the favourites. The somewhat unusual choice of wildlife for the individual letters, in addition to the interesting borders around each illustration, should hold the interest of the young for several readings.

Jan Thornhill is widely known as a magazine illustrator. She has made good use of design and colour to present a variety of animals in urban and rural settings. There are thirty-two full-colour pages with a two-line rhyme for each of the facing pages. Nature notes are provided for those who wish additional material when presenting the pictures to the young. An "almost" library binding should withstand fairly heavy use.
