This is a veritable feast of a book. The table of contents lists the following main topics: "Why Share Poems with Children," "The World of Children's Poetry," "How Do Poems Work." "When Children Head and Listen to Poems," "When Children Write Poems" and "Choosing Poems for Children".

It is meant for teachers: in fact, the authors say boldly, "You are the poem." They go on to say, In this book, we hope to assist you in sharing poems with children, to help you examine your personal experiences with, and attitudes to poems, so that you can develop your strengths as a teacher who represents an honest, caring and professional stance when working with poetry.

As a teacher who loves poetry and loves teaching it and as a person who has given workshops to teachers, many of whom are uncomfortable with teaching poetry, I want to endorse this guide heartily. The only thing better is to attend a workshop (or as many as you can get to) put on by either of these two men.

The merest of quibbles with the lengthy volume is a slight bit of repetition and the quality of paper it is printed on. Otherwise, please put at least one of these in your school.
