This book is a photographic tribute to the history of the community. Its 130 pictures show Aurorans at home, at school, at work, in business, at play, at worship, getting together, getting around, celebrating, remembering, overcoming troubles and governing themselves. It's a book for all those who call Aurora home, telling a story already familiar to a few and providing a glimpse into the community's past for others. Author John McIntyre's role as past president of the Aurora and District Historical Society and chairman of the society's museum committee has brought him into close touch with the community's archives, from which he has chosen dated photographs covering the period from the earliest beginnings to recent times. The reproductions are above average in quality, and capsule histories accompanying them provide interesting details. The book is in horizontal format. A good index and bibliography are useful for those using it for reference, particularly as a companion to Dr. James Johnston's Aurora: Its Early Beginnings (Aurora and District Historical Society. 1972). McIntyre shows that Aurora is like many other communities of its size: it has preserved many aspects of its colourful past but time has stolen irreplaceable architectural gems and traditions.
