Volume 17 Number 1 1989 January Author Robert Munsch has something in common with his latest heroine, five-year-old Angela. When, during a trip to the airport, Angela's father gets lost, Angela searches everywhere for him. She ends up inside an empty airplane, whereupon her curiosity goes unchecked as she chants to herself,"... lt's okay if I push just one more button. Don't you think it's okay if I push just one more button? Oh yes, it's okay. Yes, yes, yes, yes." I can hear Robert Munsch reciting a similar litany, in much the same carefree way - "lt's okay if I write just one more book. Don't you think it's okay if I write just one more book? Oh yes, it's okay. Yes, yes, yes, yes." And happily, this prolific writer is up to his old story-telling tricks again, namely repetition and predictability (yet not without a few surprises). "Munschkins" will recognize the author's distinctive style - the snappy pace, the wisecracking, slightly irreverent tone, and the light-hearted mood that makes for pure entertainment. The layout of the book is nicely suited to both read-aloud and independent reading. The illustrations are by Michael Martchenko, who by now appears to have a window into Munsch's mind. Angela's personality and spirit are captured perfectly in Martchenko's depiction of her, as are the humour and ludicrousness of the whole situation. Jane Robinson, Winnipeg, MB.
