This is an attempt to personalize the story of a pioneer family in the east and west in nineteenth-century Canada. Each set focuses on an individual (or family) and follows the course of events. The visuals are all artists' drawings; the muted colouring creates a feeling for place and time, as well as people. The narration dramatizes without overwhelming the visuals. The musical background neatly blends. This is a fine set to create the atmosphere of an earlier time in a personal way. There is no manual with this set. Recommended.
