Bestiaries are defined as medieval collections of allegorical fables about the habits and traits of animals, each fable being followed by an interpretation of its moral significance. David Kellum does his very best to entertain and to inform readers about the true facts of natural history. His animals do all manner of weird and wonderful things. Eighty-six animals are covered in this 176-page quality paperback. Norm Chaput, an Albertan artist, has had great fun preparing the humorous black line drawings.

This volume may find its audience among high school or adult readers who are looking for animal poetry, animal illustrations or some version of myth or legend of the animal kingdom. In all honesty, I can't recommend it to school collections even though "This book has lots of juicy Canadian content."
