Written by the award-winning author of five books and nearly four hundred magazine articles. Writing! follows the writing process from "idea to polish" and the writer from "novice to freelance," outlining information on composing, editing and marketing non-fiction articles and books. Waller quotes from magazine guidelines to illustrate what magazines want and from his own work to demonstrate how he applied the guidelines.

The chapters are titled in the table of contents; major topics are listed on the first page of each chapter. Waller's anecdotes, examples and ideas would be useful to beginners and would also be of interest to more accomplished writers because Waller outlines tricks of the trade garnered from many years of experience. Information in the book focuses on Canadian magazines, both popular and specialized.

The book is a sturdily bound paperback with clear print and ample margins. Definitely a useful, easy-to-read guide.
