Who's Who in Canadian Literature is a general reference work combining bibliographical and biographical information about Canadian writers—"particularly those who are not well-known." Authors were included if they met the following criteria: "they were living Canadian poets, playwrights, story writers, novelists, children's writers, critics, editors, or translators who have been active in the field of literature, and who have made some contribution to it." Only nine hundred of the twelve hundred authors contacted by the editors returned their questionnaires; this probably explains why children's writer Deirdre Kessler and romance novelist Dan Ross are not mentioned.

However, at the public and high school levels, such omissions are not the real problems. Rather, the bibliographical entries usually refer to texts and articles not available in most school libraries, and much of the biographical information is already on the jackets of most classroom texts and in the introductory pages of most library books. Moreover, the small type and congested format make it a real trial to extract meaningful information.

Not recommended.
