Volume 16 Number 5
In this history of logging in northern Ontario, Radforth shows the changes that have taken place in the industry in the eighty-year period covered. As stated in the introduction, this history dwells on the operations of larger companies and their employees rather than on small or individual enterprises. Included is a section of background information on the geography and forests of the area. Otherwise, the title is indicative of the content in that it deals with workers and the conditions in which they worked and lived. Although the reading level is suitable for senior high school, this book will have limited appeal for high school libraries. It might be considered where local history material of this sort is in demand.
