This is Lola Sneyd's third book of published poems, following The Asphalt Octopus* and The Concrete Giraffe," and it is the best of the three. I believe that Sneyd shows growth as a poet, particularly in her expanding use of free verse instead of rhyme, not that she cannot rhyme, for she does that well. It is just that her free verse poems in this book are lovely—lyrical and splendid. I especially like "Communications," "Spring Is," "Wildflowers Are," "Summer Wish," "Autumn," "November." "The Bluejay" and "Winter."

This collection consists of twenty rhymed and twenty-five unrhymed verses. Canadian children need to be exposed to more books such as this one. I hope it is purchased by a great many people. Doug Sneyd's illustrations add the final icing to a poetic feast.
