With this volume, Lortimer launches a new series aimed at seven-to-ten-year-olds. By adopting the familiar 5" x 7" format, Lorimer should attract readers already familiar with similar American publications. Fishing for Trouble should fit into a recognized section of the library.

Fishing for Trouble will likely hold the interest of this age group. Moving at the pace of a TV sitcom, Fishing for Trouble begins with a speech by Kiff on fishing. However, his props—dew worms and a less than fresh fish—cause pandemonium in the classroom. His flyfishing demonstration brings hilarity and chaos and that's only chapter one.

The setting is a northern lake (presumably in Ontario) where Kiff’s parents run a fishing lodge. Other characters include his best friend, Odie, and Josie Moon, the capable girl who is his chief rival. There is also a spoiled rich kid from down south who collects fishing trophies. In a satisfying ending, everyone shares in a victory and even the rich kid turns out to be a "good guy.”

The fishing theme should attract both boys and girls; the non-stop action and slapstick humour will hold their attention. The format features large print; the text Is well spaced and divided into short chapters. Illustrations are full-and half-page drawings adjacent to the relevant text.

Siamon has published several other books for kids, including Dirt Bikes at Hangman's Clubhouse* in the "Jeanpac" series.

Recommended.
