Ernest Duffy's fifty years of dedication and devotion to the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment (affectionately called the "Hasty Ps") have not gone unnoticed.

Duffy's Regiment is an absorbing story of one man's loyalty to both country and cause that led him to become one of Ontario's, indeed, Canada's, "heroes." Kenneth Smith's extensive research and many in-depth interviews have gone far toward honouring Duffy in the regiment's history.

As Lord Tweedsmuir says in the foreword, “We had not [been fighting for a better world]. We had been fighting to prevent it from becoming a worse one." On the eve of the regiment's battle engagements in Italy, Duffy wrote to his two younger brothers back home, "We offer our lives without any stipulation to you who will reap the benefit of our sacrifice, except that you keep the world for all the years to come, a free, clean, and good place." Duffy, loved and respected by all in his regiment, taught his men, by example, all the discipline necessary to carry them through many front-line encounters with the enemy.

This book should have great appeal to history buffs and anyone interested in a story of human struggle.
