In celebration of its twentieth anniversary, Wheatland Regional Library has produced a history complete with anecdotes, sketches and photographs of many of the culprits responsible for the library's lively spirit and undaunted struggle for expansion and survival in a competitive world. Noted for their pioneering ingenuity and persistence, Saskatchewanians here once again account for an amazing grass-roots development.

Seeded by three women in the late 1950s and nurtured by new recruits and volunteers, the organization eventually reached the size of Nova Scotia, taking in thousands who agreed to tax themselves to bring books and other materials to eager youngsters and impatient men and women. Hard-working supporters, a good sense of humour, and more than one unorthodox decision combined to bring success where nothing had existed before.

Congratulations to a gritty, persistent. Innovative and inventive company of adventurers for a job well done!
