Volume 16 Number 4 1988 July Author-illustrator John Bianchi introduced the Bungalo Boys with their first adventure in Last of the Tree Ranchers (Bungalo Books, 1986). He also wrote and illustrated Princess Frownsalot ¹ and illustrated Terry Dickinson's Exploring the Night Sky ². This latest picture-book is an amusing spoof about a safari across the Serengeti Plain. With tongue-in-cheek humour the "straight" (and sometimes informative) story-line is enhanced by the hilarious illustrations that provide a totally different picture. Through "literal illustrations" Bianchi has provided subtle and creative humour throughout the book. Pictures such as the one of wildeyed animals stampeding across the plains when the Bungalo Boys attempt to parachute in "so as not to disturb the peaceful lives of the animals below" are quite entertaining. Bushmen Brouhaha is well bound, very colourful and appealing. Though it isn't necessarily "a must," its humour will appeal to Primary level children, as well as to older students studying about the Serengeti. The price is certainly reasonable.
