THEY DONT MAKE 'EM LIKE THAT ANY MORE: A PICTURE-HISTORY OF CANADIAN CARS 1932-47.

Volume 16 Number 2
1988 March

The bad news is that this book is bound in unattractive burgundy cloth with gold lettering on a narrow spine with no illustrated material on the cover, which seems made for a paste-on glossy. There is no table of contents or index, but the general organization of the material is by year; this organization makes the material readily accessible.

More than half of the space is devoted to photographic and artists' illustrations culled from magazines. These excellent reproductions on high quality, glossy paper add a great deal of pertinent information. The text relates the progress of the industry to many events in Canadian, American and world history. If the volume has value it is as social history. DC Bondt's correlation of the history of the industry to the history of the country in such an interesting and unusual fifteen-year period gives this slim volume (fifty-six pages) its attraction.

Recommended for senior academic and technical students and for public libraries.
