This is a collection of anecdotes, stories and jokes from magazines, newsletters and daily bulletins published during World War II. Also included in the book are cartoons based on wartime themes and a generous sprinkling of factual information in the side-bars of most pages.

Mr. Mansikka has compiled this book from over twenty-five original sources and cannot be faulted on his research. The cartoons by Paul Gomiratto are appropriate and fit the concept well. 1 am not sure about the purpose of the side-bars, other than that they offer a novice many diagrams and facts about World War II equipment.

Many people will enjoy this easily read collection. It is a reasonable effort to humanize war, a topic not normally considered too humorous. Song-hooks from World War II exist, but there are not many things like this.

Canadians of all ages will get something from the book. Today, when humour leaves little to the imagination and spares none, this book offers a contrasting view of innocence and lameness despite the demanding world situation.

Recommended.
