Darby Volume 16 Number 1 1988 January Hockey albums featuring good colour photos of NHL stars will always be received well in Canada, home of the Canada Cup. In this, the 1987 version of a similar album released last year, freelance sports reporter Paul Romanuk and Scholastic-TAB should have another winner. There are photos of sixteen stars including Dino Ciccarelli, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmore, Wayne Gretzky, Mark Howe, Mario Lemieux, Al MacInnis, Paul MacLean, Mark Messier, Kirk Muller, Denis Potvin, Mike Ridley, Luc Robitaille, Patrick Roy, Tony Tanti, Steve Yzerman and Doug Wilson. It's hard to argue with that line-up. However, one can find fault with the fact that the biographical and statistical information is listed on the backs of the photos, thus making it impossible to cut the photos out and paste them to bedroom or rec room walls. The album also includes a record-keeping section, in which the young enthusiast can record the progress of his favourite players, goal-tenders, award winners and team, as well as his own personal progress as a player. This feature should prove especially attractive to players, from novice to bantam. This is a very attractive purchase for parents of hockey players but probably a poor one for schools since it is likely to disappear from the rack as soon as it is placed there. Clare A.
