Volume 15 Number 6 1987 November Princess Frownsalot, a most unpleasant little girl, rules her parents and their kingdom by frowning. Her frown is not limited to her brow, her whole face shows displeasure. One day her frown stuck. Her cat tries, unsuccessfully, to unstick her frown, then her parents declare a national emergency. Dr. Katzinbottin suggests a smile transplant. The cat's smile is transferred to the Princess, using the doctor's unbelievable technology. The Princess does not like the cat's smile (complete with whiskers) so she tears it off and returns it to the cat. He is so happy that the Princess laughs at his antics and from then on the Princess hardly frowned at all. This is a silly story. The format is "picture book" but the text is hard to read aloud. Many words and concepts are unsuitable for this age group. Dr. Katzinbottin is the "greatest medical mind of the dark ages" yet the Princess watches TV and eats chocolate chip cookies. The doctor speaks with a foreign accent. Coloured illustrations show energy and movement but the adults all have enormous noses and look strange.
