The authors have compiled a comprehensive series of reproducible worksheets to "take advantage of students” enthusiasm for sports to refine their research skills." The questions and activities are based on information found in The Canadian Encyclopedia and Compton's Encyclopedia.

The authors are undoubtedly experienced educators, but unfortunately their lack of familiarity with the details of individual sports limits the usefulness of these reproducibles. A general sports worksheet to be filled out by the students may well be appropriate for a complex team sport such as baseball, but proves irrelevant for an individual technique activity such as diving. In addition, many of the assignment questions are overly simplistic and quite unrelated to the research, such as, "Why is football a popular spectator sport?" Or "Choose a theme for a figure skating routine." Does this mean a visual theme or a musical theme?

The sheets themselves are often deceptively set out, as only three lines are provided for generalized questions such as the purposes of the Olympics or descriptions of the skill requirements for certain track and field events. ,

The basic concepts of the exercises are worthwhile; however, in their present format the sheets require too many revisions by the classroom teacher before they can be used effectively as a teaching tool. (The package suffers from an immediate lack of credibility due to a typing error in bold face on the first page of the introduction.) Recommended, following revisions.
