He was awarded the Canada Council Children's Literature Prize in 1984 for Ghost Horse of the Mounties (Black Moss, 1983). He also has many other titles to his credit, including Scary Poems for Rotten Kids ¹, Atmosfear ², and I'll Belly Your Button in a Minute ³. Some of his books have tackled serious topics, but Pickles and the Dog Nappers has no grave message. It is an imaginative and entertaining yarn. Readers first met Pickles, the poetry-speaking dog, in Pickles, Street Dog of Windsor 4. She now returns with her friends Sam ("a big lion coloured dog"), Peaches (a French-speaking collie), and the author. They find themselves ensnared in a tale of mystery and adventure. Dogs in the Windsor area have been disappearing from their homes for months, and now Pickles and Sam have also disappeared. Peaches and the author set out to find their friends. What they encounter makes for a spellbinding and suspenseful story. The pages turn easily and quickly as the tension builds.
