Elisabeth Gerrard was born and educated in England. A former teacher, she Studied history at Oxford, where she met and married her husband during the early years of World War II. Her latest book is about trips she has taken with her husband during the last ten years. Dr. Gerrard was invited to speak at pediatric meetings and to meet and work with medical colleagues in several countries. Each trip provided an excellent opportunity for his wife to study such countries as Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, Ethiopia, and Egypt. Before each trip, she prepared by reading extensively about the places they would visit. She kept detailed notes while travelling and they took photographs. She has written a personal account of their journeys, telling about the places they visited, individuals they met, and incidents they encountered. Her accounts are more than a diary of events. She provides clear historical and geographical information that gives depth to the story-telling.

The book is laid out in chapters, each being a different journey. This permits easy access to the information. The type is very easy to read and the twenty-eight black-and-white photos and line maps augment the text. A short bibliography appears at the end.

This book is suitable for senior high school students and university students studying the eastern hemisphere. Armchair travellers will enjoy it too, as it is an interesting travelogue of trips.
