Elliott Volume 15 Number 2 1987 March This work was written to and for adopted teenagers. Marion Crook received her degree in public health nursing from Seattle University. She worked with many health counselling programs in British Columbia before turning to writing full time. Her published works include seven books of mystery and suspense, and several magazine articles on entomology and conservation. In the summer of 1985, Crook travelled across the country interviewing some forty adopted young people between the ages of thirteen and twenty-two. As the author indicates in the foreword, this is not a scientific study of adoption. It is a collection of interviews in which the author asked the volunteers for information on how they felt about themselves and their adoptive parents, their origins, etc. Written in the second person throughout, Crook speaks directly to the teenagers and relates to them what she found in her interviews. The style is interesting, but the reader feels left out. In twelve chapters, Crook describes her findings. Chapters 10 and 11 are the most practical. They give the adopted teens help in investigating their own histories and in determining their legal status in both the United States and Canada. Appendix I tells them where they can get help in searching for their birth mothers, listing both Canadian and American addresses. Appendix II reproduces Crook's original questionnaire of twenty-nine questions. The large type and adequate margins make for easy reading.
