No Easy Answers is journalist David Hayes's first book. In-depth research and first-time interviews with the Curtis family, as well as members of the Podgis family, have contributed, as never before, to the story of Bruce Curtis's conviction.

Bruce Curtis is the student from Nova Scotia who was convicted in 1983 of aggravated manslaughter in the death of Rosemary Podgis, the mother of a friend he was visiting in New Jersey. Curtis was sentenced to twenty years in a United States penitentiary for the crime. Hayes has produced the first book on the story, but, as the title indicates, there are no easy answers to the questions of guilt, innocence, and justice. Hayes explores the backgrounds of both boys' families, their education, and reputations. Information from the boys' teachers and schoolmates provide insights into their characters, but probably the real reasons why two people were killed and why the boys disposed of the bodies and fled to Texas will never be clear.

Hayes's journalistic style makes this a readable book. He includes some black-and-white photos of the principal characters and a sketch of the house where the tragic events occurred. There is no index or table of contents, so the book is not accessible to researchers. Recommended for libraries.
