"For centuries, in every culture, children have been inspired to learn through play." Games, a natural part of play, are what the book Gomes for Everyone is all about. The author, David Booth, is chairman of the drama department. Faculty of Education, University of Toronto. Over the last thirty years, Booth has given speeches and workshops on all aspects of learning. He has also written a number of books on language and drama.

Booth's latest book contains over one hundred games that will provide a learning experience for children. Divided into ten chapters, each deals with an area of learning, such as: co-operation, movement, imagination, communication, etc. Within each chapter, the games are geared to that particular area of learning. The goals for each game are listed first and could include any of the following: concentration, balance, trust, listening, motor development, visual memory, or self awareness. A description of the game follows with clear and concise instructions on how to play and possible extensions of the game.

There is an introduction to each chapter that relates how the games in the section contribute to the stated area of learning. A bibliography is given at the end of each chapter. An index provides access by the names of the games and the goals.

Games for Everyone is a resource book for educators, teachers, parents, childcare centres, babysitters, group leaders, recreation attendants, drama instructors, camp counsellors, and anyone else working with children. Recommended.
