Dr. Saul Levine, head of psychiatry at Sunnybrook Medical Centre and professor of psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and Dr. Kathleen Wilcox, assistant professor in the department of family and community medicine, Sunnybrook Medical Centre, are co-authors of the nationally syndicated newspaper column, "Youth Clinic." They receive thousands of letters from teenagers, young adults, and parents each year. Dear Doctor brings together three hundred questions and answers as a resource for young people and all those who deal with them.

The collection is divided into ten chapters dealing with everything from "body" to "sex" to "school" to "abusable drugs." Each chapter is given subject headings within the category. The excellent format and layout are finally enhanced by a complete index, cross-referencing everything once again. Many of the answers, which are notably straightforward, up-to-date, and non-judgemental, conclude with the recommendation to visit a family doctor for more complete and specific advice. For all of these reasons, and especially because there is such a need for teenagers to know they are not alone in worrying about flat chests (girls), baldness (boys), or a growing drug dependency, I can easily urge every library in the country that serves teenagers or their parents and teachers to order this one.
