Shades of the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and Eric Wilson's mystery novels. A Russian fishing vessel, mysterious men in dark suits, a missing test pilot, an experimental airplane about to be stolen, hostage-taking, and daring rescues. You get the picture. There is plenty of action, suspense, and mystery in this fourth book about Jill and Heather.

The two sisters (ages eleven and fourteen) arrive in Chatham, New Brunswick to stay with family friends (including sons Hamish, age thirteen and Adam, age eleven). The family lives near the Canadian Forces airbase, and it is time for the annual air show; this year to feature the new Canadian fighter plane, the FX20. To add to the excitement, the four young people are slated to enjoy a private tour of the plane with Bill Blair, the test pilot. Instead, they end up in the fish cooers on the Russian boat and have to be rescued by the air force.

Twenty-five chapters in eighty-two pages help to make this appealing to reluctant readers in the grade 4-6 age group. Unfortunately, the cover is not appealing. The paperback version seems to be sturdily made, but the book has noticeable errors in grammar and spelling, e.g., girls' head (one girl); quotation marks out of place; sloppy sentence structure, including this gem: "The coach section stopped just a few feel from where Mr. Wilson had parked the station-wagon, steam hissing out from beneath its wheels." These problems aside, this lightweight mystery will have some appeal to readers who appreciate more easy to read mystery stories.
