Timmy sets out to bring back the perfect Christmas tree from the back of Puddin' Stone Hill. His black cat follows him into the forest and threatens to be more of a hindrance than a help, but it is the feisty feline who finds the tree and the way back home.

A quiet story, more for reading together lhan alone, il creates a sublle mood for Christmas. This may be due to the fact that the author's style lacks energy, the imagery is bland, and the only character with any real depth is Black Cat. The story does come alive, however, through the delightful, soft pencil drawings of Sylvia Hahn, which complement the text on every page.

The author's other work, Norman's Thankful Book (Highway Book Shop, 1977) was reviewed in volume 2 of Children's Choices of Canadian Books. The children were, ". . . non-commital about the story, finding it at best and at worst rather silly." One could say that A Christ mas Tree from Puddin' Stone Hill at best and at worst is really just too nice.
