This book is a translation of Comment nourrir son enfant. The introduction states that this is the second edition of Feeding Your Child and that the first ten chapters dealing with nutrition during pregnancy, breast-feeding, and babyhood have been completely rewritten. The next six chapters are virtually unchanged and will eventually form part of a book on feeding the preschooler.

This is a comprehensive book on nutrition for pregnant and nursing mothers and babies, It discusses the special needs of pregnant women and gives sample menus. There is a full discussion of the advantages of breast feeding. Other types of milk that may be fed to babies are compared as to composition. The introduction of solid food is described and many recipes for home-made baby foods are included.

Chapter 11 presents a summary of fourteen essential vitamins and minerals that are essential for good nutrition. Each page shows an outline of a flower with sources of the nutrient and daily requirements. From these charts it is simple to calculate the number of portions of food that are necessary to provide adequate nutrition. The final chapters discuss the nutritional needs of the child from nine months to five years and give many recipes.

This book discusses nutrition for the first year of life in great detail, and gives an introduction to the art of feeding the toddler. Differences in food practices in Canada and the United States are discussed. It would be useful for parents of young children and for students of family studies.
