Since 1974, the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education has co-operated with various experts in both the public and private sectors to plan programs and produce classroom aids for the teaching of economics at the high school level. These materials have always been of a consistently high standard and this text is no exception. Class sets are a must for secondary business education departments and single copies should be well used in public libraries.

The economic role of entrepreneurs is examined and important points underlined with relevant data. Case studies of successful enterprises and failures illustrate the opportunities and dangers that must be considered by anyone with an urge to launch a new business. A frank discussion of the traits that appear to characterize the minority of managers who could really be called effective are given. The final two chapters detail the planning needed to launch a new enterprise and the evolutionary stages such a business might pass through from birth to maturity.

Following the textual material are five simulations that should provide some feeling of verisimilitude for young people who have not yet experienced the real world of commerce. Unfortunately, there is no index. Even sixty-three page brochures such as this are more useful if entry is possible through specific terms. There is, however, a two-page glossary that reviews technical words. There is also a very selective bibliography of resources that have appeared in the 1970's and early 1980's.

The Foundation is to be recommended for producing yet another inexpensive, well-designed, and informative teaching aid for Canadian schools.
