The authors of this beautiful book have succeeded in their objective of surveying the "impressive nature and scope of Stained Glass in Canada." After considering more than sixty artists, the authors have chosen seventeen, all of whom show a great commitment to both artistic and craft excellence, through contact with other professionals, with art schools and apprenticeship processes. For each artist, there is biographical information, as well as an analysis of their training, workshop techniques, and artistic directions. Beautiful, full-colour reproductions accompany the text. A rich variety of design shown throughout the book makes us realize that besides the traditional, stained glass designing is done in the spirit of twentieth century masters such as Kandinsky, Klee, Mondrian, Joseph Stella, and Jim Dine. Beyond the creative process, we read of the concern for the architectural setting of the work, and the range of techniques and materials needed to execute each design. This book is written in a concise, informative style and with the exquisite photographs of Canada's finest stained glass works it makes a desirable book for any library.
