It is a child's chair, made by the owner's great grandfather, who had built it and painted it ocean-blue long ago. The first illustration is of the little boy flying a kite as he sits in his blue chair on a rooftop overlooking many other rooftops of red tile. The story unfolds as the little chair changes owners and even hemispheres. It is told by the author-illustrator in a few simple lines, accompanied by a full page of detailed coloured drawings, obviously done by an accomplished artist. After many ups and downs, as the chair is passed from one owner to another, the little boy, now a grown man, finds his chair again. He discovers it in a museum, in a special exhibit of children's chairs from all over the world. It has a sign by it saying, "Do not touch. This is a fine example of a chair from another century." This simply-told story, with its fascinating detailed illustrations, is one that can be read again and again. My friend of five who previewed it with me, said it is for children from four to six.
