Volume 14 Number 2 1986 March Calamity strikes when young Sam accidently pours the whole jar of Grandma's secret ingredient into the huge tub of milk waiting to be made into cheese for the mountain village of Louisa Louise. The secret ingredient turns the tub's contents into a massive glob of monster cheese that bursts its confines and starts rolling east down the Rocky Mountains, across foothill gardens, over prairie wheat fields, around Saskatoon, through Lake Manitoba, and towards Winnipeg's airport, with Grandma and a growing host of enraged farmers in hot pursuit. How Grandma saves Canada from further destruction by the monster cheese and what eventually becomes of it, makes a fitting climax to this rollicking tall tale. This is Steve Wolfson's first book, which is delightfully illustrated by Bill Johnson. Though not great children's literature, this somewhat contrived tale will undoubtedly tickle the fancy of those primary and middle schoolers who like the bizarre and fabulous. Robert W.
