Volume 14 Number 2 1986 March The Dingles family has Doris, a red-haired grandmotherly type, and three cats for members. Donna is a snobby Siamese, DeeDee an orange-striped investigator, and Dayoh an all-round good guy, who spends his time digging to China. One afternoon, just as they are about to have catmint tea, a big wind arises. The story tells how Doris saves them all from the ensuing storm and how they spend a comfy evening recovering. This could be the first of many adventures for the Dingles. They are a delightful, loving foursome. John Bianchi's illustrations do much to enrich the story with character and comedy. Cartoon-like drawings are brightly coloured and have an abundance of detail. Corpulent Doris, with her ever-changing mop-top, crinkly red hair, glasses perched atop an overlarge nose, asleep,open-mouthed,snoring, in the bathtub, or in a nightcap, will be a favourite. A paperback, the book has a sturdy, glossy cover with heavy-weight paper for the pages. Pre-schoolers will love this funny story for read-to-me sessions and independent browsing. Recommended.
